Type IIa diamonds contain almost no nitrogen and are more transparent than ordinary diamonds. Therefore, they are often compared to “a pool of clear and sparkling springs” or “a solidified drop of water”, sparkling and translucent. Superior quality combined with the almost exhausted mineral sources make its price remain high.
In addition to colorless, Type IIa diamonds can also be grayish brown, yellow, pink or light green. Compared with most diamonds formed between 150 and 250 kilometers underground, Type IIa diamonds only exist 660 kilometers deep underground, so Type IIa diamonds are also known as “Super Deep” diamonds.
Another fascinating aspect of Type IIa diamonds is their origin. Historically, they originated from the Golconda mine in central India in the 16th century. India was once the world’s only source of diamonds.
